Biomedics Contact Lenses

Early in 2005, Cooper Industries, known by the CooperVision brand, made its largest acquisition to date, Ocular Sciences Inc, manufacturer of the well known Biomedics contact lenses, extending its product line and geographic presence, enhancing manufacturing technology and adding proprietary new materials for future products.

Having received wide recognition, Biomedics contact lenses are becoming increasingly popular. The standard range is made up of frequent replacement soft contact lenses that come in two main types: Biomedics 55 and the Biomedics 38. The difference between them largely lies in their water content.

Biomedics 55 Contact Lenses
Biomedics 55 are 1-2 week disposable soft contact lenses. Each box includes 6 lenses immersed in buffered saline solution. They comprise 45% polymer (Ocufilcon D) and 55% water.

This contact lens can also be found selling under different names by various retail chains, for example:

  • Clinasoft
  • Versaflex
  • Ultraflex

They to have been infused with a visibility tint to make handling easier, however this has no aesthetic visual affect on the eye. The Biomedics 55 contact lens also comes in a toric variety for the treatment of astigmatism, and in a more convenient daily disposable form.

Biomedics 38 Contact Lenses
Biomedics 38 are 1-2 week disposable soft contact lenses. Each box includes 6 lenses immersed in buffered saline solution. They comprise 62% polymer (Polymacon) and 38% water.

Biomedics 38 contact lenses are ideally changed every seven days. Each lens is carefully fashioned to provide clear and sharp vision time and time again. The lenses also are ideal for first time contact lens wearers as they have a visibility tint, which helps makes them easier to manage as well as easier to insert and remove.

Under the Biomedics 38 name you also find the 38 Ultra Thin and the UV 38 Ultra Thin which offers the some protection from the sun's harmful ultra violet rays. This lens is also marketed by various eye-care chains under the following names:

  • Mediflex
  • Versaflex
  • Ultraflex

Optimedics / Biomedics Color
The Optimedics Colors and Biomedics Colors are the exact same contact lens sold under two different brand names.

The new Biomedics Colors lenses uniquely fuse four color patterns on to a single lens. The end effect is a distinctly more natural looking colored contact lens . This new process is simple and easily applied to the existing Biomedics 55 range - and is available for both vision correction and for cosmetic effect only.

Optimedics / Biomedics Toric
The Optimedics Toric and Biomedics Toric are the exact same contact lens sold under two different brand names.
